Mural Work. Sculpture. Painting.

I have been drawing as long as I can remember. Once older, I began to paint with acrylics and was entirely self-taught. There were no art courses available to me in the High School I attended. I spent a large portion of my adult life dabbling in art on the side in a cautious and rather repetitive way. Then in 2013, I made one of the best decisions of my life. I decided to go back to University to attain my art degree. What an utterly life-changing adventure! At the University of Lethbridge, among taking drawing and painting courses, I also happened to take a sculpture course just for no other reason than I needed more art to fill my course outline. Game. Changer. Almost within the first course, I felt that I was developing my personal art language. Working with shape, form, color, and texture I approached art making to something so much more personal than just being able to draw a good picture. It became linked to a level of freedom I had never experienced before. I learned how to PLAY. This was an art form that was slippery and elusive and personal and complex. There was no picture to look at and draw. I learned anew how to work with my hands. I learned how to think and push material around and explore and fail and deliver. Sculpture became my “next level” approach to a deep and personal expression.

My Undergrad Thesis was based on a total exploration of sculpture involving the found object. Here I could draw in 3D. I could also - most importantly - work with objects that I was organically attracted to. My work is assemblage at the basic level, but expression on a spiritual level. There is a moment when my found object work presents itself as finished and it is akin to rebirth. I recreate a form of myself. A version that is free, pure and limitless. It is my art language. I have learned that my ability to express through my work is broad and beautiful and deeply satisfying.

I continue to draw and to paint on canvas. I have also been recently attracted to mural work which is generally large in scale and offers some further opportunity for play.

I am open to commissions.
